Batalha is a city located 13km south of Leiria and 122 km north of Lisbon. The town was founded by King D. João I of Portugal after the construction Santa Maria da Vitória na Batalha after the Portuguese victory against the Spanish in Battle of Aljubarrota (1385). Batalha evolved around the Monastery in the following centuries.
