DESCRIPTION

Luleå grew in the 19th century thanks to the Malmbanan railway that was built to transport iron ore from the Gulf of Bothnia to Narvik on Norway. The town center moved to its present location from Gammelstad in 1649 due to the falling sea level. Nowadays, Gammelstad is the best preserved church town, that used to exist in Scandinavia. You can catch a bus to Kemi (Finland) from Luleå.
