Sofia has been inhabited for 7000BC and has Thracian stronghold during the Roman Empire invasions. Since People's Republic of Bulgaria has mainly controlled by the Soviet Union between 1946 and 1990, Sofias has mainly a communist architecture. The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is one of the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in the world.
